Screwdriver Bits, Tamper Proof Bits, and Security Bits
Slotted Screwdriver Bits
Slotted Screwdriver Bits are used with power tools for tightening or loosing screws that have one single slot running across their heads. These screwdriver bits are often used where only a minimal amount of torque is required.
Papa John's Toolbox carries slotted screwdriver bits with 7/32" and 1/4" blades in a variety of lengths including 1", 2" and 6". Also available are double ended screwdriver bits with one end slotted and the other Phillips.
Phillips Screwdriver Bits
Phillips Screwdriver Bits are used with power tools for tightening or loosing screws that have two crossing slots making a "+". The Phillips screw design allows more torque to be used when tightening and also helps prevent slipping.
Papa John's Toolbox carries Phillips Screwdriver Bits in different head sizes including #00, #0, #1, and #2. The #00 head is very small and most commonly used when working with small mechanical parts or electronics. The #0 Phillips Screwdriver Bit is slightly larger than the #00 bit and is also used for work with mechanical parts and electronics. The #1 and #2 sizes are the most common and are used in materials and objects ranging from common household appliances to industrial applications. Papa John's Toolbox carries Phillips Screwdriver Bits in a variety of lengths ranging from 1" - 6" long.
Posidriv Screwdriver Bits:
Posidriv screws have a small cross pattern that dissects the Phillips cross pattern. This enables more torque to be used when tightening or loosening a posidriv screw. Posidriv screws are not very common and are mainly found in industrial applications. Note that normal Phillips Screwdriver Bits will work with Posidriv Screws, but Posidriv Screwdriver Bits will not work with Phillips Screws.
Papa John's Toolbox carries Posidriv Screwdriver Bits in a number of sets. For large quantities of individual Posidriv scewdriver bits please contact Papa John's Toolbox at 1-866-310-8650.
Star Tamper Proof Secutiry Bits
Star Tamper Proof Security Bits are specialty bits often referred to as "Torx®
Screwdriver Bits", "Tamper proof Screwdriver Bits", or "Security Bits" and are
used on Torx® screws. Star Tamer Proof Security bits come in a variety of styles
including basic, security, and star plus. Basic Star Bits have six points. Security
style Star Bits have 6 points and a hallowed center to allow for a security
pin found in security Torx® screws. Star Plus screwdriver bits have a five point
star design instead of a six point star. Star bits are often referred to as
"Security Screwdriver Bit" or "Tamper Proof Bits" because they are needed to
tighten or loosen Torx® screws, which are commonly used by manufacturers to
prevent consumers from accessing certain areas of their products. Security or
Tamper Proof screws are also able to handle large amount of torque. Torx® screws
are most commonly found in electronics and automotive parts. Torx® and Torx®
plus are registered trademarks of Textron®.
Hex (Allen) Screwdriver Bits
Hex Screwdriver Bits are also commonly referred to as Allen screwdriver bits.
Hex screws are generally used in place of nuts and bolts. Unlike nuts and bolts,
the Hex Bits fastening feature is located inside the head of the screw. Hex
Bits require less room around the screw for tightening or loosening and allows
large amounts of torque to be placed on it. Hex Screws are commonly found in
bicycle parts and ready to assemble furniture. The advantage to using hex bits
in furniture is that they can be easily recessed or hidden. Since the Hex bit’s
fastening feature is located inside the head of the screw, the diameter of the
head is smaller than a bolt. Furniture manufacturers also like them because
they can be used in tight areas. Papa John’s Toolbox carries a variety
of Hex screwdriver bits and security Hex Screwdriver Bits both individually
and in sets.
